Golf in Comporta

— BETWEEN THE OCEAN AND PINE FORESTS —

Discover the Courses

Comporta is visibly changing: evolving from a quiet coastal village into an increasingly sought-after luxury destination. Golf is very much part of this transformation. While the traditional Tróia course has graced the peninsula since 1980, the additions of CostaTerra, Pinheirinho, Dunas, and Torre between 2022 and 2025 have introduced four spectacular new layouts in quick succession.

Dunas and Torre – The New World-Class Courses

Golf course in Comporta
Golfing amidst natural dune landscapes.

Just outside the coastal village of Carvalhal lie the two courses of Terras da Comporta: Dunas and Torre.

Designed by Scottish architect David McLay-Kidd, the Dunas Course is a true links layout rolling through natural sand dunes, recently named the World's Best New Golf Course at the 2024 World Golf Awards. Right next door is the Torre Course by Sergio García, open for play since summer 2025. Measuring 6,670 meters from the back tees with a slope of 141, it is notably demanding. Its narrow fairways and small greens require precise play and evoke memories of Valderrama.

Both courses are open to the public and can be reserved via the direct links below, or through established booking platforms.

Melides – The Exclusive Private Resorts

Just 15 to 20 minutes south of Villa Laranjeiras in Melides, you will find two golf projects dedicated to a completely different philosophy: absolute exclusivity and privacy. They do not cater to standard green-fee players, operating instead strictly as private member clubs.

Opened in 2022, the Pinheirinho Golf Course (designed by Jorge Santana da Silva) weaves through gently rolling pine forests with a moderate slope. Part of the VIC Properties resort, it operates discreetly on an "invitation-only" basis.

Even more prominent is the CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club. Designed by star architect Tom Fazio and developed by the Discovery Land Company, this represents an international ultra-luxury concept. The entirely private resort frequently makes headlines in the international press, attracting prominent names from Hollywood and high society. It is exclusively playable when accompanied by a member.

Tróia – The Regional Classic

About twenty minutes away lies the Tróia Golf Course, designed back in 1980 by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Measuring 6,317 meters with a slope ranging from 119 to 135 (depending on the tee), it combines the character of a classic links course with narrow fairways and small greens, perched right against the dunes and the sea. The course has repeatedly hosted the Portugal Open and is still considered one of the most challenging in the country.
Important Note: The course is expected to remain closed for extensive renovations until spring 2027.

Booking and Tee Times

Prices and availability naturally vary depending on the season and booking method. This is especially true for green fees, which may or may not include a buggy or cart. For travelers with flexible schedules, comparing different booking platforms is often worthwhile.

Good to Know

Golf courses in the area

There are several excellent golf courses in and around Comporta. Besides the classic Tróia Golf Course (1980), recent years have seen the addition of CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club (2022), Pinheirinho Golf Course (2022), Dunas Course (2023), and Torre Course (2025).

Distances from the villa

The Dunas and Torre courses (Terras da Comporta) are just about 5 minutes away. Pinheirinho is roughly 15 minutes away, and the Tróia Golf Course is about a 20-minute drive.

Can guests play on the courses?

Dunas Course, Torre Course, and Tróia Golf are open to the public and offer green fees for visitors (bookings via their websites). Pinheirinho and the CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club, however, are highly exclusive private clubs reserved for members and their invited guests.

Best season for golfers

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, as temperatures are pleasantly mild. Midsummer can get very hot, making early tee times highly recommended.

Handicap requirements

The premium public courses (Dunas, Torre, Tróia) generally require proof of playing ability or an official handicap (often max. 36). It is advisable to have your certificate ready at check-in.

Equipment rental

Yes, the courses offer high-quality rental equipment from renowned brands. Especially in the high season, this should be reserved directly when booking your tee time.

Buggy or walking?

Tróia is very flat and wonderful to play as a true walking course. At Dunas and Torre, the distances between greens and the next tees can be longer, which is why many players prefer a buggy here.
